Muhammad Ali and His Stand on the Vietnam War.
by Ian McFarland, Caitlin Ortiz, and Mi-Ling Wong. History Day 2016.
The Rumble in the Jungle, Muhammad Ali, a boxing champion and a gold medal winner in the Olympics, had refused to go fight in the Vietnam War on the 28th of April, 1967. His decision eventually lead to conviction of draft evasion, being sentenced to five years in prison, and being stripped of his world title. One of the reasons why Muhammad did not want to fight was because of his religion. So people believe that the government had hit Muhammad harder that they would have to another man because he had now become a member of many other black Muslims. He could have given in and either went to fight or went to prison leaving his career behind, but instead of letting up, he fought back. Not with gloves, but with words.
